Shambhavi Maha Mudra

The Shambhavi Maha mudra is an eye mudra for meditation. This mudra takes some practice and time to get used to, as it may feel quite uncomfortable and unnatural in the beginning. The goal of the Shambhavi Maha mudra is to enter a state of consciousness and spiritual connection. It is therefore also used in third eye meditation, where you will stimulate and open your third eye chakra in the middle of your forehead and in that way become more spiritual aware. The Shambhavi Maha mudra allows you to look at and through your third eye from your minds eye, which connects you to your spiritual side.

For the Shambhavi Maha mudra you will roll your eyes upwards and keep your eyes open. Do not to strain your eyes, as this will only give you a really bad headache. This mudra is very advanced and has many great benefits, though it has to be practice the right way, and so I strongly recommend that you find a yoga teacher to learn from and work with, as they will be able to guide you through the exercises and tell you what to do and what not to do. So wait with this mudra till you have someone with you who is a professional and who can teach you the right way to do this mudra and how to get the best results and no headaches. But this mudra is for spiritual connection and not something you need to do in your everyday meditation practice. It really depends on what you goal with your meditation practice is. If you are just looking for a way to reduce stress and to relax your mind and body, you do not need to learn this mudra. But if you want to connect with your spiritual and psychic side and develop your abilities and skills in this area, you may want to learn this Shambhavi Maha mudra.
